Preparation Method :

  • Heat the ghee in a saucepan. Add the cumin, cinnamon, bay leaf, cardamom pods and cloves and allow to sizzle or until the cumin is aromatic.
  • Add the onion and cook until it turns golden at the edges.
  • Add the drained rice with turmeric and salt, cook for a minute, stirring.
  • Add 2 cups of water with salt. Bring to a boil, cover and cook undisturbed for about 15 minutes. Check a grain, when cooked; remove from heat and serve.


  • 250 grams basmati rice, well washed, soaked and drained
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric 6 cm cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 4 cloves
  • Salt, to taste
