Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed large pan and saute the aniseeds, urad dhal, garam masala and the cumin seeds till the seeds stop crackling.
  • Add the curry leaves and onions and fry till light brown. Add the ground masala paste, powdered spices with little water. Allow to boil.
  • Add the crabs, tomatoes with little more water if needed. Adjust seasoning with salt. Simmer for a few minutes till the crabs are cooked.
  • Serve steaming hot garnished with coriander leaves, fried red chillies and tomato slices.


  • 500 grams crabs cracked
  • 2 Onions finely chopped
  • 4 Tomatoes finely chopped
  • 100 ml IDHAYAM sesame Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Aniseeds    
  • 1" piece Cinnamon broken into bits
  • 4 Cloves    
  • 1 teaspoon Pomegranate seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds    
  • 1 teaspoon Urad dhal    
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli powder    
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander leaves, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Tomato finely sliced to garnish
  • Red chillies fried in a little oil to garnish

Grind to a fine paste

  • 1 Coconut grated
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • 9 Peppercorns
