Preparation Method :

  • Heat the oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. When the seeds stop crackling, add the onions and chillies. Fry till the onions are well-browned.
  • Add the tomatoes, powdered spices and fry for a minute or two. Then add the fish pieces, ground masala paste and 2 cups of water along with vinegar and salt. Stir well.
  • Cook till the fish is well done. Serve hot with rice or rotis.


  • 750 grams Sea-fish, cleaned, sliced, rinsed and drained
  • 150 grams Onions, chopped
  • 100 grams tomatoes, choppes
  • 50 ml cooking oil
  • 2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1½ tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 4-6 Green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • Salt to taste

Grind to a fine paste

  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoon Coriander seeds, roasted 
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds, roasted
  • 6 cloves Garlic 
  • 6-8 Peppercorns, roasted
