Preparation Method :

  • Marinate the pomfret fillets with half the salt, lemon juice and turmeric powder. Keep aside for 20 -30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan and fry the marinated fillets till they are golden brown. Drain and keep aside.
  • Reheat the pan with oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves and saute till the seeds crackle.
  • Add chopped ginger and onions; cook till onions soften. Add tomatoes and cook till the oil separates.
  • Stir in the red chilli, cumin and coriander powders and the remaining turmeric. Stir for a minute.
  • Mix in yoghurt. Boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Slip the fried fish into the curry and simmer.
  • After 5 minutes, remove the fillets and place on the serving dish. Pour the curry on top.


  • 750 grams Pomfret fillets
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 100 ml cooking oil
  • ½ teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 9 Curry leaves  
  • 2 tablespoon Ginger, chopped
  • 75 grams Onions, chopped
  • 75 grams Tomatoes, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon Cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 150 grams Yoghurt, whisked
