Preparation Method :

  • Add the spicy paste with turmeric, chilli powder and salt, divide it into 2 equal portions.
  • Mix one portion into the onion paste. Stuff this paste into the fish and rub the remaining spicy paste onto the sides. Marinate at least for an hour.
  • Deep fry the fish on both sides till golden.
  • Serve garnished with sliced onions.


  • 500 grams medium Pomfrets, cleaned, rinsed, drained and incised
  • 1½ teaspoon Chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking oil to fry
  • Thinly sliced spring onions to garnish

Spicy paste

  • 1 Onion, chopped    
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander seeds
  • 3 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • ½ " piece Ginger    
  • 3-4 cloves Garlic        
  • 1 teaspoon Poppy seeds    
  • ½ teaspoon Mustard seeds    

Onion Paste

  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1 bunch Coriander leaves
  • 3-4 Green chillies
