MACKEREL PICKLE

Preparation Method :

  • Marinate the fish in salt and a little turmeric powder for about half an hour. Drain and fry till golden brown on both sides.
  • Heat a little oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the ground masala and fry till the oil separates.
  • Add the sliced and chopped ingredients with vinegar, salt and fried fish. Bring to a boil, remove from flame. Leave aside to cool.
  • Preserve in a clean jar and consume within one week.

INGREDIENTS

  • 100 ml Weak vinegar
  • 1.5 kg Mackerels, cleaned, incised, rinsed and drained
  • 20 - 22 cloves Garlic, sliced
  • 2 " piece Ginger, minced
  • 12-14 Green chillies, cut lengthwise 
  • ½ tablespoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • Cooking oil to fry
  • Salt to taste 

Grind to a fine paste with little vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin seeds
  • 5-6 Long chillies 
  • 10 - 12 Short chillies
