Preparation Method :

  • Pour the sunflower oil into a deep fryer or large, heavy-based saucepan and heat or until a cube of bread browns in 30 seconds.
  • Meanwhile, using an electric mixer, beat the egg and salt together until frothy, then quickly whisk in the water and flour.
  • Mix the cinnamon and sugar together in a shallow dish and reserve.
  • Slice the apples into 1/4-inch thick rings. Spear with a fork, 1 slice at a time, and dip in the batter to coat.
  • Add to the hot oil, in batches, and cook for 1 minute on each side, or until golden and puffed up.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. Keep warm while you cook the remaining batches.
  • Transfer to a large serving plate.
  • Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar and serve.


  • Sunflower oil, for deep- frying
  • ½ large eggs 
  • Pinch of salt
  • 100 ml water 
  • 25 grams plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 25 grams caster sugar
  • 2 eating apples, peeled and cored
