Preparation Method :

  • The Sauce: Put the passata in a saucepan with the ground spices and chopped ginger. Simmer for about 5 minutes or until thick, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the coconut milk and cook for 2 more minutes. Add the lemon juice, adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add the tuna and cook for about 2-3 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Serve with plain Basmati Rice and the remaining sauce in a separate bowl.


  • 350 ml thick coconut milk
  • ½ inch piece of ginger, finely chopped
  • 250 ml passata (sieved tomatoes)
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Ground Spices

  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder

Marinade, Cover and Marinate the Fish For About Half An Hour

  • 25 grams chopped fresh coriander
  • 750 grams steaks, rinsed, drained, rubbed with lemon juice, rinsed and pat dried
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
  • 2-3 red chillies, deseeded and finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Grated rind of 1 lemon
