Preparation Method :

  • Preheat the oven to 190°C / 375°F / Gas Mark 5.
  • Toss the steak in the seasoned flour.
  • Heat the oil in an ovenproof casserole and fry the beef for 5 minutes or until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  • Add the onion, red pepper and garlic to the pan and fry for 2 minutes. Return the beef to the pan along with the paprika, caraway seeds, tomatoes, tomato puree, stock and potatoes.
  • Put the lid on the casserole, place in the oven and bake for about an hour or until the meat is tender. Serve topped with a tablespoon of creme fraiche.


  • 500 grams lean braising steak, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned flour
  • 1 red pepper, de-seeded and chopped finely
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 225 grams potatoes
  • ½ teaspoon caraway seeds, crushed
  • 420 grams chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 20 ml IDHAYAM sesame oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 250 ml beef or vegetable stock
  • Salt, to taste
  • 50 grams half-fat creme fraiche, to serve
