Preparation Method :

  • Put the apples, orange rind and juice and sugar into a ovenproof serving dish.
  • Put the flours into a mixing bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  • Stir in the icing sugar and cinnamon, making sure all the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  • Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple.
  • Bake at 200°C (400°F) mark 6 for 30-40 minutes, until the topping is crisp and golden.
  • Serve hot with fresh cream or custard.


  • 500 grams cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • Grated rind and juice of ½ orange
  • 15 grams light soft brown sugar
  • 50 grams plain flour
  • 25 grams plain whole meal flour
  • 50 grams butter
  • 25 grams icing sugar, sieved
  • 1.5 ml ground cinnamon
